The secret to remembering your mind movies

So this last week I have remembered my dreams more than ever before. I even remembered some in the middle of the night, then another and another after returning to sleep. Upon waking sometimes I quickly grab my phone and narrate what I can remember, in a whisper in the darkness. One of my dreams this week featured a person I have seen a few times but never actually spoken to (and never thought to speak to), however there they were, front and centre of my dream. This made me wonder about dreams, in particular why do we dream the way we do, and why am I remembering dreams so easily this week?

There is more to remembering dreams than meets the eye (or is that the mind’s eye?):

  • meanings and reasonings for dreams is still a bit of a mystery to scientists
  • we usually have four to six dreams per night
  • as we journey through those four to six dreams per night we experience a lot of emotions
  • we only have two to five minutes after we wake to remember our dreams
  • the key to remembering is upon waking try to limit other inputs, such as sounds, lights, smells, to give yourself a better chance of recalling your dreams
  • write down as much as you can as quickly after waking as you can, focus on main points, not about making sense or writing a story, you don’t have much time!

If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.

  1. I find dreams fascinating and used to keep a dream journal many years ago. Strangely enough, this week mine have been pretty memorable too. Sweet dreams Kellie! ✨

    1. Me too about journaling years ago, not anymore, though this week I have quickly narrated some as I found it strange I have remembered so many. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about dreaming this week too, that makes me wonder 🤔

  2. I remember my dreams very easily and I’ve always been an EXTREMELY vivid dreamer, ever since I was young. I still remember some dreams from when I was 9/10 years old absolutely perfectly.

      1. I know! I have SUCH a vivid memory and imagination. I can recite one particular dream literally second by second. I had it when I was 10!

  3. This is a time for dreams, that’s for sure. Especially if you live in the United States. Or, the Untied States as I sometimes mistakenly type. Perhaps not a typo after all. Sigh.

    1. Oh I probably wouldn’t have noticed the typo in Untied! I have my fingers crossed for the United States, you’ve been through a lot and deserve some good dreams to come true🤞🍀❤️

  4. I am like you – I remember dreams only if I record them immediately. If I wait until morning, they are gone!

  6. Hello Kellie. I am coming to your blog from a comment you left on Pat’s Retirement Transition. I find it so intriguing when I dream about someone I don’t know well and I wonder why they are imprinted on my brain. I don’t remember my dreams every night, but there are periods of time when I have more vivid dreams than usual for several nights in a row. I don’t know what triggers that. My grandson recently had a dream that I was driving him to prison, but the prison was like a castle and they were serving mashed potatoes–one of his favorite foods. He asked me how long he had to stay, and I said, “Not as long as last time!” We’ve laughed about that a lot, wondering what he was doing to earn these luxury prison sentences.

    1. Ha ha ha, I love that you and your grandson laughed about his dream, how sweet ❤️ Yeah the dream about someone I really don’t know was strange, and I’m same as you with periods of time where my dreaming recall is different. Thanks for this comment 😊

  7. Hi Kellie. Thank you for sharing your insight. Dreams sometimes I remember them so vivid and sometimes I don’t remember anything but wake up with the feeling I had a dream.

    Have a great day😊

    1. I do the same, I sometimes know I’ve had a dream but can’t remember exactly what the dream was. I do remember themes or that a person was in my dream but not specifics 🤔 thanks for this comment 😊

  10. I’ve been writing my dreams down recently no matter how odd or weird they are. I noticed that though I remember some as I wake, if my notepad or phone isn’t beside me for them to be quickly penned down, I tend to forget them.

    1. Me too about remembering them as I wake, but forgetting unless I quickly write them. It’s annoying as I know I just had them there in my mind but then they are gone 🤔

  12. Hehe yeah me too. I find the one thing that works with remembering them is to explain the dream to someone then it’s possible to remember 😄
