Need a new lease on life?

It is cold here. Pleasantly so, the sunlight still comes through and it’s comforting to wear warm soft clothes like my oodie and knitted socks, however I needed a beanie for a night outing and didn’t have one that I liked.

I did find my old pink (mushroom?) beanie, but it didn’t look as appealing as it had when I first crocheted it. It either had to go or needed a new lease on life. I had a two immediate options: return it to my wardrobe to remain unused and buy a new beanie; or modernise it a bit with one of those furry pom poms. I decided on the latter option.

A few trips around some local shops and I was having no luck finding either a finished furry pom pom to sew on, or the faux fur to create my own. Finally I found some faux fur, although not all the colours I wanted were available, I settled on a light brown / dark cream. I noticed the tag said “elk blonde” was the colour, sounds true enough.

With the help of youtube I quickly crocheted a pom pom and stuffed it using some filler from an old cushion. I sewed it on the beanie and gave the beanie a new look, a modernisation for a new lease on life. The beanie is now getting out of the house once again, all thanks to a bit of time and energy on how to perk it up and bring it out of the dark.

We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea. Holding onto something that is good for you now, may be the very reason why you don’t have something better.

  1. That’s so awesome!! Love how you brightened up your beanie! And I’ve taken that step outside my comfort zone a little bit when I bought my new horse Murphy! I was worried for a tiny bit that I was doing something crazy, but everything fell into place and things are going great! It’s like a new chapter in my horsey life with my current horse still here and doing good. My plan was to have another horse to eventually take her place, and am sure and hoping that will be a few years to many years from now. Oh sorry to go on so, you just got me thinking about things!! Have a great weekend Kellie!! 💜🐴
